Derek Fisher to Oklahoma City

Mulitple sources are starting to report that advanced negotiations are on going between Oklahoma City and Derek Fisher.

According to some NBA writers and my sources, it seems that Fisher is leaning to sign with Oklahoma City when he clears waivers at 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Sources told ESPN.com that the Heat have made a strong recruitment effort to sign Fisher, but the Thunder have more financial flexibility to sign him and more of a role to offer after the loss of backup point guard Eric Maynor in early January to a season-ending knee injury. There is also a feeling among some rival teams that Fisher prefers to stay in the West, where he has played his entire career.

Most likely Oklahoma City would release Ryan Reid. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lazar Hayward was the one to get the axe due to Reid being a rookie and has tons of potential and growth. Will be very interesting to see what Sam Presti does.

Fisher is averaging 5.9 points per game, 38% shooting from the field. Including 32% from three-point range, all career lows. Fisher would be brought in for his championship pedigree and hopefully relieve some of the minutes that Westbrook has been taking on this season.

Update: 9:05 am – Derek Fisher has been reported to have arrived in Oklahoma City, with Sam Presti at Will Roger’s Airport. This thing is really picking up steam.

Update: 11:56 am – contract details are being leaked, including “unofficially” that Fisher has passed a physical.

Update: 1:02 pm – Contract that has leaked out is a 2 year – $7.2 million dollar contract, with a player option for next season.

note: Fisher cannot officially sign any contract with Oklahoma City until 5 p.m. local time.
