On Thursday, the Oklahoma City Thunder waived guard Devon Hall. Shortly after, they signed forward Kevin Hervey to a Two-Way contract.

Hall appeared in only five games for the Thunder this season. He only received 20 minutes of playing time and he totaled only five points and three assists.

Hervey, the 23 year old, has spent the season with the Thunder’s G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. The 6-9 forward is averaging an impressive 19.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in three games with the Blue.

Kevin Hervey has looked very well in his G-League career. Last season in the playoffs with the Blue, he averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from three in their two playoff games.

With Hervey excelling in the G-League, this move could just be to see how well he plays against NBA talent. Or perhaps it is because Devon Hall was with the Thunder for the Two-Way contract maximum number of days of 45.

However, it could possibly be much deeper than either of those reasons.

With trade season closely approaching, the Thunder have several valuable players available for trade. Those players include Chris Paul, Dennis Schröder, Danilo Gallinari, and even Steven Adams. Sam Presti will be receiving plenty of calls from opposing General Managers wanting to negotiate with him the next couple of months . With the Thunder in the midst of a rebuild, it makes a lot of sense for Presti to swap some of Oklahoma City’s older and more talented players for draft picks or younger pieces to the team.

One of the most talented trade eligible players in the NBA this season, is the Thunder’s very own, Danilo Gallinari.

December 15th is the first time players who signed a new contract over the summer can be traded. With Gallinari having a pricey contract, that date could be huge for other teams having more options to negotiate a trade for Gallinari. The NBA trade deadline is February 6th, so the Italian forward could potentially be on the move sooner rather than later.

The sharp-shooting forward is averaging 18.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game this season. He shoots 39.9 percent from three and an outstanding 90.7 percent from the free-throw line. Many teams across the league could use his shooting and scoring ability. There has already been several rumors going around about teams interested in him.

With the Thunder signing Hervey, a young forward with potential, it could mean they are anticipating to trade Gallinari. Adding more depth at the forward spot would make a lot of sense if a Gallinari trade is going to take place. If the Thunder do make a trade with Gallo in the coming months, you can anticipate to see Hervey out on the floor for the Thunder.

Keep an eye out for Sam Presti and the Thunder to make some moves in the coming months with several players, but especially with their very talented forward Danilo Gallinari.
