Domantas Sabonis, the lone Oklahoma City player in the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored seven points in 19 minutes as Lithuania beat Argentina 81-73 to remain unbeaten.
Lithuania and Team USA are the only 3-0 teams left on the men’s side.
Sabonis, who only played six minutes in the first half, really came on strong in the second half. After sitting out from the first to mid-third, Sabonis scored five points, pulled down four boards and blocked a shot and grabbed a steal, as Lithuania romped out to a 57-47 lead with second second left to go in the third quarter.
As Lithuania fought off a valiant effort by Argentina (2-1) to come back, Sabonis’ and-one opportunity with 3:02 left in the third quarter, putting Lithuania up 48-44. Late in the fourth quarter, Sabonis was fouled by Luis Scola, and the big man hit both free throws, putting Lithuania up 74-73 with 1:23 remaining.
Sabonis finished with seven points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks. He hit 2-of-5 from the floor, missed his only three-point attempt, and hit 3-of-5 free throw shots.
Lithuania will play Spain on Saturday for a huge showdown. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. Thunder Time on NBCSN. A win vs. Spain will set up a potential showdown with Croatia for a 1st place in the group on Monday.Looking for Oklahoma City Thunder tickets? Thunder Digest has you covered at Totallytickets.com!
