Westbrook will play tonight vs. Heat

The honey badger, Russell Westbrook will make his return to the court tonight against the Miami heat. We reported on twitter two weeks ago that Westbrook would return tonight. Then Yahoo! and other national sources confirmed it. Even Kevin Durant said he would return. However, Durant later recanted his statement, saying he assumed.

He was right, though.

“We are all very excited to have Russell back. He has worked extremely hard throughout his rehabilitation, and his addition will allow us to build on the progress we have made in his absence,” general manager Sam Presti said in a statement today. “As Russell integrates back into the team we are going to manage the transition by building his minutes over time and will evaluate his availability in back-to-back situations. These steps are an effort to control the areas of his return to play where feasible, given the reduced practice and conditioning time during the regular season. Our goal is to create the best foundation for Russell and the team as we head into the postseason.”

Westbrook had a third surgery the day after Christmas to subdue some swelling that resulted from his meniscus tear that happened 10 months ago.

Oklahoma City went 22-8 overall without Westbrook and went 20-7 during this last stint. They’ve ascended to the best record in the NBA, despite the injury set back and now they’ll add a top 10 player back into the mix without making a single trade.

Presti said that Oklahoma City will put Westbrook on a minute restriction, but he’ll start and will be limited in minutes on the court and most likely in practices. Oklahoma City will definitely like the intensity that Westbrook brings back to the court.

Game time is at 7 pm tonight!
