Top 20 Games in Thunder History: #18

As the season is coming closer and closer, we’re going going to bring you our thoughts of the top 20 games since the Thunder moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City. We broke it down to about to about 50 games, and then narrowed it down to 20. We decided most were going to be wins, we had one game that was a loss in the top 20, and it’s easily the most memorable lost. Well, for me at least. Without further adieu:

When: April 1, 2012

Location: Oklahoma City, OK – Chesapeake Energy Arena

Final Score: Oklahoma City Thunder 92, Chicago Bulls 78

Big Players: Kevin Durant 26 points, 10 rebounds in 32 game minutes

You all remember this game. I know you do. The vaunted Chicago Bulls rolled into a Sunday brunch with the Oklahoma City Thunder and left with a really big hangover.  There were over 300 people waiting for tickets for up to 12 hours before to see two of the top teams battle it out on national television.

The Thunder waited no time showing the Bulls why they had one of the best home records in basketball. Also, the Bulls were without the reigning Most Valuable Player in Derrick Rose. The Thunder led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, but only led by seven after one quarter.

Chicago did their best to stay with the Thunder in the second quarter, only being outscored by two points. Oklahoma City used a late second quarter run to push a four point advantage to a ten point advantage in over the final two minutes of the half. It was topped off by Kendrick Perkins hitting a 15-foot jump shot with 29 seconds to go. The Thunder led by 10 at the break, 49-39.

Then the Thunder rolled all the way back to Chicago. They used a 15-2 run to start the second half. By the end of the quarter, Oklahoma City had pushed their lead to 80-51. The ‘Peake was rocking, and the NBA was on full alert at this point. The quarter’s big play was the Russell Westbrook’s dunk on Omar Asik (see video).

The win pushed the Thunder to 40-12 on the season and 23-4 at home.
