Thunder Links – Post Preason Edition – December 21, 2012

Thunder are just now four days away from the regular season. They’ll host the Orlando Magic if you already didn’t know.

Funny thing, did you know there was a line last night on the game? Oklahoma City was favored by 5 1/2 points. (If you’re not sure how that works, if you were to bet, and OKC won by 6 or more points, you’d win. Had OKC won by 5 or less, or lost, you’d lose). How crazy mad are you if you bet on that game? NY Times says the Thunder are better on defense. the subject of the Thunder’s perimeter, where Russell Westbrook, Thabo Sefalosha, and Kevin Durant consistently do fine defensive work. Durant is the weakest defender of the three, but his length and effort alone can give opponents fits. Sefalosha is a bit more adept at using his size and reach to bother ball-handlers, but Westbrook.. (cont…)

Michael Kinney talks about possible rivalry brewing. “It’s easy to say this will be a good rivalry,” Scottie Brooks said. “We’re a good team, they’re a good team. The location of each team. But we don’t look at it in that way, yet. But maybe in the future.” Even though Brooks said he wasn’t treating the games against Dallas any different than the other 29 teams in the league, his Thunder gave a regular season effort Tuesday. John Rohde says the fans came back with a sellout. A sellout crowd of 18,203 was on hand, and the understandable lack of intensity during a preseason game was missing from the outset.“I think they thought it was a playoff game,” Brooks said. “The energy was in the building to start the game. I think they don’t realize it’s December. They thought it was (playoff time in) May. It’s great. Our players love it. They love playing in this gym. (cont…)

Thunder want a title, but will do it quietly. Beyond the dynamic tandem of Durant and Westbrook, general manager Sam Presti has put together a deep roster that is now playoff-tested. enter Kendrick Perkins, a key piece of Boston’s run to the 2008 title and the 2009 NBA finals, joined the Thunder at the trade deadline last season and is healthy again after injuries to both knees. he Perkins trade also opened the door for power forward Serge Ibaka and guard James Harden to take on increased roles.
